Our service is tailored to meet individual needs and budgets, and can also be adapted to provide new home buyers with an interior refurbishing and styling service.

Impressions London provides a cost efficient ‘home staging’ and decorating services to private home owners, landlords and property developers who are intending to market for sale or rent their properties. We are expert at presenting accommodation and its unique features in the most appealing way to potential buyers or renters. The business is focussed on the South London property market.

Company Directors

Impressions London is owned and run by Ems Jane Penniston our Creative Director and KJ McGurk our Projects Director. The company is based in Crystal Palace and we cover the South London area with our home staging service. Both partners bring a wealth of knowledge and experience of renovating properties and of the housing market in London.

Network of Specialist Support Services.
We are a boutique design service providing bespoke solutions to specific property requirements. We only accept commissions that we know we can handle with either one or other of the founder partners being available to undertaking or overseeing the work.

We have a team of vetted, specialist support services with whom we have established good working relationships over numerous projects, so we can vouch for their reliability, professionalism and the quality of work they undertake on our behalf.

These include: Plasterers, Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Gardeners, Cleaners, Carpet Fitters, Surveyors, Hire Services, Print, Framing & Objet d’art Studios.

Ems Jane Penniston

Creative Director

Over a 12 year career, Ems has demonstrated her passion for interior design, challenging people’s preconceptions with her innovative and fresh ideas, creating stunningly simple, yet elegant living spaces. Ems has designed and created unique furniture pieces that are often used in many of our interior spaces.

Ems studied Interior Design and Specialist Decorative Techniques at Lambeth College of Art. After graduating, she moved to live and work in Shoreditch, a thriving artisan hub around Brick Lane Market, where she designed her first collection of ‘cutting edge’ costume jewellery, inspired by old zips, pins and buckles found in the market.

Her jewellery range was customised for individual clients and sold directly via her internet site ‘Emsie Designs’, as well as through unique pop-up shops around London.

Her creativity comes from designing new things out of old or discarded items, incorporating such pieces in distinctive and imaginative ways, be this jewellery, furniture, artworks, or interiors. Many of her pieces are individually handcrafted with no two pieces ever the same, creating unique, original objet d’art.

As our Creative Director, Ems channels her talents into creating stylish, contemporary and stunning home interiors that appeal to the trend conscious, upwardly mobile generation driving the London property market.

KJ McGurk

Projects Director

KJ studied design at Middlesbrough College of Art, qualifying with a degree in graphics, advertising and marketing. During his 30+ years career he has worked in the creative services industry, in London and abroad. He has held positions as board director with two of the UK’s leading branding consultancies – Allied International Designer’s plc. and The Michael Peter’s Group plc.

He also established his own branding agency – Indigo Partners Limited, which he ran successfully for six years.

KJ has worked extensively in international marketing, developing brands for multinational, national and local brand owners in Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle and Far East, Russia and the USA. KJ has developed his practical knowledge of interior design through numerous renovation projects on properties he has owned, including a period Kentish yeoman’s farmhouse, a Georgian town-house, an Edwardian arts & crafts villa, several cottages, and a ground floor flat and a basement conversion in Balham.

For the last three years, KJ has spent time renovating and decorating properties for customers in South London. This has allowed him to apply his design skills in a more practical way. His business and marketing knowledge, an awareness of current lifestyle trends and an obsessive eye for detailing make KJ perfectly suited for his role as our Projects Director.
